Introduction and Re-Introduction of Conscious Lee
Educator, Story Teller, Influencer, Author
I’m Conscious Lee, an educator with over seven years of experience, holding a Master’s in Adult Higher Education and a Master’s in Human Relations. My work focuses on creating intersectional, interdisciplinary content that delves into topics like mental health, politics, pop culture, and cultural issues. Through a blend of humor, academic theories, philosophical viewpoints, historical knowledge, and personal experiences, I offer insightful critiques and perspectives on the evolving landscape of politics, pop culture, and emerging online identities.
I intentionally deploy “purposeful provocativeness” as a tool to elevate and educate my generation on pertinent topics through social media content, speaking engagements, lectures, and online courses. I believe you cannot change what you don’t know needs to be changed. My work helps people uncover how we are all implicated and lost in the complexities of what needs to change. Through my educational analysis, I aim to equip folks with the tools to create that change. The starting point is consciousness. I consider myself an “edutainer” whose style provokes dialogue and conflict, all meant to inspire transformation. My motto is “Education is Elevation,” and I’ve developed a brand of educational entertainment that translates an understanding of oppression, consciousness, intersectionality, and gender identity for both the TikTok generation and Baby Boomers alike.
Born in Bryan, Texas, to teenage parents who frequently experienced incarceration, I overcame childhood adversity to attend the University of Oklahoma, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree and two Master’s degrees while becoming one of the top college debaters in the country. I’m a Hall of Fame College Policy debater for the decade of 2010–2020 and won a College Debate National Championship in 2021. I was waist-deep in the college debate trenches for over ten years. I was also part of the first African-American duo to become the number-one seed at the National Debate Tournament, where we gained national recognition for our unique use of hip-hop to sustain sophisticated arguments. Not to brag… lol, but my masterful knowledge of hip-hop culture and my academic expertise across African-American Studies, Human Relations, and Higher Education enable me to connect with diverse audiences and deliver impactful results through Conscious University. Some might call these “portable skills.” I’ve also led dozens of workshops and taught at more than six educational institutions.
I’ve built a dedicated, engaged audience of over 3 million followers across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. My work was recognized with a 2022 YouTube Content Creator Choice Award. That same year, I was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Social Media Personality and was selected for the second creator class of YouTube’s Black Voices Fund. My values and analysis have garnered millions of views and have been featured in Rolling Stone, Forbes, Essence, The Washington Post, Al Jazeera, The Atlantic, Business Insider, and The New York Times. In addition to serving on the Content Advisory Board for The Fanbase App, I’ve partnered with organizations like Google, YouTube, TikTok, BET, the NAACP, many others. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, eating oysters, and creating memories with my family.
I love seeing you over here. I made the move a little over a year ago and it’s been wonderful. It’s a great platform for educators and as you always say: “education is elevation”
